A toilet roughed-in in front of a shower.

Your looking at a bathroom. On the right is the tiled shower pan. However you see that the toilet is supposed to be centered where drilled on the floor. Notice that after the toilet is installed, your shower door won’t open nor will the gap between the cabinet and the toilet meet code regarding access to the shower pan.

My house was built in the early 1800s. It does not know of this “code” everyone seems to be referring to...

What is it you do? Are you a home inspector or something? But yes in the last few weeks you’ve shown us a few WTF’s

I am not a home inspector. However there are many things in homes I happen to need to inspect for my work.
When i work long hours I get bored and i swear the last home I visit everyday always has something wrong with it.

Hey now, this is a case where I was actually prevented from doing my job! We are solution oriented. I don’t like breaking the bad news — yet that seems to be my entire job description lately.

Those grout lines have been bugging me all day! Why couldn’t the tile guy line the floor tiles up with the shower tiles.

Oh you mean why is there a gap on the threshold where a grout line ought to be? You know the answer: penny pinching (on what was possibly a 2-4k tile job)

Yeah figured. I remodeled our bathroom a couple of years ago. I spent probably three days lining the marble up. I can still see flaws.

Ohhhh you mean that 3/4” gap there? As well as 12” to the right? Tile guy said “fuck it.” Lol

That’s pretty much what has ruined me. Working in homes has made me notice things in my own that no sane human would even look at.
And then it cuts the other way. You would think I would be more sympathetic to trades I hire to work in my home. NO. I don’t want the same shoddy quality I see on a daily basis. Even when i shop around and spring for the better work, something still pisses me off! I’ve become what I hate.

The difference is when you see shoddy work on site you know some ass bag still got paid for the job. But when it’s your house you have to live with “good enough". You'll always notice that popped screw in the drywall above the mirror and that one piece of trim that's off by 1/36th of an inch.

The toilet flange isn’t in the shower where it should be. Seriously, how awesome would that be. And the savings since you wouldn’t need toilet paper.

Tell me about it... I work in a precision measurement equipment laboratory (aka. PMEL, for 18 years next month) as far as attracting perfectionists, “precision” is in the name... My own work when I re-floored my house last summer drives me nuts. Trim work is the definition of hell for a perfectionist...

I hate cutting trim. For me it’s measure four or five times then go back to the garage, look at everything and go back and measure again. Cut. Cuss. Use filler and sand the ugly shit.

Were you watching me do my baseboards?
When you’ve spent years measuring in micro-inches and angles in 10ths of seconds, eyeballing 32nds of inches and half degrees feels wrong...

Just turn the toilet 90 degrees and it’ll be fine...
